What is your opinion on this subject matter? Should it be a thing being supported in the editing community?
Me personally, I'm one of the very very few against it for a few reasons:
1. I'm still pissed off about the NC's damn Christmas with the Kranks review where he essentially said if you enjoyed any of his pre-2013 videos you had a shitty sense of humor. The mere fact that this didn't destroy his fanbase overnight, let alone long enough for them to do anything together, disgusts me.
2. Most people would say his clipless reviews are him being nicer to the fair use system and all that, but I actually think it just makes him look worse. Why? Because it showcases just HOW much of a movie he needs to use for his show to function, and how little of his own voice he really needs to put in at the end of the day. Again the CwtK video bought this to my attention. There's a part where 2007!Critic watching Hocus Pocus and is, like anybody with half a brain, complaining he barely touched upon what was wrong with the movie itself. 2015!Critic's response is to cite a part where the Briefers Rock-looking witch goes "Our writing is atrocious and makes no goddamn sense". What I got from that was "As long as I talk about a generic aspect of the film with no elaboration for half a second, the entire plot is mine to showcase."
3. The mere presence of other guys in the video. I was a bit worried people would just be going "OH MY GOD NC IHE AND JEREMY TOGETHER AT LAST" to see the real issue.
4. The usage of IHE in general. While it was a good idea to have other guys in the video (and YES I know I just said that was fault #3, but that was talking about how the COMMENTERS would react it. This is talking about in regards to the video itself.) instead of NC just talking about how this has happened to HIM, IHE was a bad choice. Why? Because Coolcatgate was on another fucking level entirely from what WTFU was about. While WTFU is supposed to be about the automated system, Daddy Derek was a rare instance of it being one person specifically taking down your thing. Additionally, it was FAR more personal and FAR more illegal than any other example they could have given. Derek PRETENDED TO BE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MOVIE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER so he could give IHE more strikes then he could have legally. This is FAR more serious than just Paramount taking some of your ad revenue.
And these are the reasons. I thought because of all this this movement would never get off the ground, but it appears IT GOT THE ATTENTION OF SOME ACTUAL PERSON FROM YOUTUBE. While some people (*cough*Clay Claymore*cough*) would probably still at this point be going on about how despite everything he's still right, I'm just gonna sit down and remember never to go to Vegas.
